About

Who the hell am I and why should you care? Well, you did click the "About" button, so don't blame me...

Professionally

I've been online for 17 years, creating web pages for 14 years and getting paid to create web pages for 12 years. In that time I've seen, and done, a lot, met many great people and grown with an industry that has been fun and well, chaotic. I came to Los Angeles with a degree in animation seeking a job in special effects. I started side work as a web designer since I was one of the few who knew how to build pages at the time. Side work quickly became full-time work and I've never looked back (okay maybe I look back every once in a while). I did find that I enjoyed web work more than effects animation, and I have a passion for doing it. I started as most web designers do, in the world of non-standard table based design. Happily, in 2001 I discovered the world of web standards, CSS, XHTML, usability and accessibility. I never code without them by my side.

Personally

What do I do in my spare time? What are my hobbies? If I could only take 5 albums to a desert island what would they be? I know you're dieing to know these and other job interview style questions about me. Well if you must know those things ask away, but I've decided to use my space here to give out a weird assortment of random facts about me and just general words of wisdom first:

  • When you're in a car and someone says the phrase "Let's do this!", you probably made a bad decision to get in to begin with.
  • Tree branches can fall without warning and if you're classic car is in the way, prepare for sadness.
  • I'm hoping to return to Austin, I really didn't see much while I was there.
  • Where most bike accidents are concerned, your tragedy is often someone else's comedy.
  • The secret to driving on the "surface streets" in Los Angeles as a shortcut, is avoiding streets that access the freeway. Trust me, it works.
  • Some day I'll get time to write my AIR app.
  • Most of my favorite cars are from the 1960's.
  • The Black Keys do, in fact, rock.
  • Neil Stephenson is a great writer IMO.
  • Some animals, despite popular myth, are NOT as afraid of you as you are of them.
